Broomhill Art Hotel, which is near Barnstaple, North Devon, is a unique and fascinating place to visit or even stay.

The owners, who hale from the Netherlands, are Rinus and Aniet van de Sande.

The sculpture garden extends down through a wooded valley and is full of artistic surprises. There is an excellent in-house art gallery with a frequently changing programme of exhibitors and events.

This was an exhibition 20 May-30 September 2002: "Contemporary Zimbabwean Sculpture"

Contemporary Zimbabwean Sculpture at Broomhill Sculpture Garden & Gallery

May 20-September 30 2002

Pat and I took the opportunity of a sunny afternoon in May to view the exhibition and enjoy a relaxing 'tea, coffee and cakes' overlooking the sculpture gardens at Broomhill Art Hotel.

Rinus and Aniet have sited some of the larger pieces on the upper slopes of , what I can only describe as, the fantastic sculpture garden which extends down into the valley to the stream below. Not sure if they are still in the garden; it is now May 2014.

Zimbabwe Art in Torquay

As part of the Torbay Arts festival 2001 The Gallery Innerspace from Harare in Zimbabwe held an exhibition in the Spanish Barn at Abbey Gardens, Torquay.

Pat and I paid a visit and even came away with a couple of examples of Zimbabwean art. A painting for Pat's birthday and a small 'Head' by Fanizani Akuda, which has pride of place on our fireplace.

Broomhill Art Hotel is near Muddiford, Barnstaple, Devon. (on the old Ilfracoombe Road).
